I was in Champagne earlier this month visiting some of the wonderful small champagne houses that I'll be introducing you to in the coming weeks and months. One of them gave me an invitation to the inaugural event of the Salon des Vins de Champagne in Paris on December 12th & 13th.
Unfortunately I couldnt make it, but it's exciting to see these fabulous champagne makers organising themselves to make sure they get the attention they so richly deserve.
I certainly intend to put this event in my diary for next year and I suggest you do too - it could be the champagne tasting event of the year. The emphasis is very much on the small growers who produce such wonderful and, as yet, largely undiscovered champagnes. Some of them I know already :
Laherte Frères,
Franck Pascal,
René Geoffroy,
and Pierre Peters to name just a few, but there are many more intriguing names to discover :
Henri Billiot,
Olivier Horiot,
Georges Laval , the list goes on...
Hope to see you there next year, and in the meantime I plan to visit some of these great little champagne makers in the coming months. I'll tell you all about them after each visit, so watch this space.
Have a wonderful holiday season wherever you are and be sure to enjoy a few glasses of champagne.
Stay Bubbly,
Jiles
